MIND THE GIANT VOID
I was able to turn this out over the course of 3 days, which is awesome. Obviously inspired by the old “mind the gap” signage you see overseas. Now I don’t know if there should be a white backer to the shape, but I kind of like the negative space in the back, and It looks cool when it’s on a wall.
after getting the lettering spaced out, I had to trim the rectangle to even out on both sides. this took a bit of time to get appropriate distances. Used PVA as always since I find it to be the best paper to paper adhesive.
after everything was stuck together, I had to prime the front and back in prep for paint. Using a liquid gesso, I can get into the small nooks and crannies that cardboard loves to create. I thought about a spray gesso, but thought that would be more beneficial for a very flat piece with not much depth. I still think i’ll get a can for future projects. What I like about my approach to these signs, is the fact that I’m only using like…5 tools: Olfa cutter, pencil, 18”ruler, PVA and some crap brushes.
after the paint was laid down, I used a matte varnish to reduce the sheen that acrylic sometimes has. double coat to help prevent chipping if moved around. Onto the next one.
